Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said the rumour spreaders and troublemakers, who are involved in creating panic and anarchy, would be dealt with an iron hand.

“Stern action will be taken if anyone tries to create anarchy centering the rumour over child lifting,” he told state news agency BSS during an exclusive interview at his secretariat office in the capital on Thursday.

Following the ‘zero tolerance policy’ against militancy and terrorism, the law enforcing agencies are on high alert and vigilant to deal with the extremists, militants and other criminals, he said.

“Law enforcement agencies destroyed the militants’ dens and their networks across the country and now police and intelligence agencies are on high alert in dealing with any untoward situation for safety and security of the people,” Kamal said.

He sounded a note of warning against the militants, terrorists and rumours, saying the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working relentlessly to establish a crime and militancy-free society in line with the government’s ‘zero tolerance policy.

The government never allows any sort of criminal activities in the country, the minister said.

He urged the people of all strata to remain alert to resist the conspiracy and rumours, adding that ‘the culprits are destined to face tough punitive actions’.

Earlier on Tuesday, Kamal said some 81 people have been arrested so far for beating people to death, now await further legal actions as nine cases were filed and 15 general dairies (GD) were registered in this regard.

The minister urged all not to lead by roumours of child lifting or any other crimes saying ‘if you suspect anyone, hand them over to law enforcement agencies or dial 999 for police assistance’.

He said measures were taken to build awareness across the country through educational institutions and Imams of mosques while law enforcement agencies were working actively to identify the rumour mongers and those who were spreading rumour through facebook and other social media as well as other electronic devices.
