Tokyo’s Bangladesh mission opens helpline

The Bangladesh Embassy in Tokyo opened a helpline to provide assistance to expatriate Bangladeshi in Japan as Typhoon Hagibis made a landfall on Izu Peninsula, southwest of Tokyo, reports BSS.

All Bangladesh nationals staying in Japan currently have been urged to contact with the embassy through emergency helpline numbers 080-4456-1971, 070-32024400, 080-40656601 if required, said a message, issued by Bangladesh embassy in Tokyo for Bangladeshi nationals.

No casualty of Bangladesh nationals has been reported so far, it added. It said the Bangladesh Embassy is closely monitoring the steps taken by the Japanese government and remains in touch with the Bangladesh community representatives constantly. The embassy has also urged all Bangladeshis there to follow the directives of Japan Meteorological Agency and local authorities’ properly regarding massive typhoon.

Powerful Typhoon Hagibis slammed into Japan on Saturday, killing at least two people and prompting authorities to issue their highest level of disaster warning over “unprecedented” downpours that caused flooding and landslides, according to media report. Around 7.3 million people were placed under non-compulsory evacuation orders and more than 30 people were injured, four seriously.
