Tk 313cr loan disbursement target for Chandpur

The target for the disbursement of loan is Tk 312.47 crore and 61 thousand in Chandpur. 

Bangladesh Bank in the fiscal year 2020-2021 has allocated Tk 312.47 crore and 61 thousand to all Chandpur-based banks for disbursement as agriculture loans for poverty alleviation. 

The government has in particular, directed to provide the loans at 4% interest for the production of pulses, spices, oilseeds and maize. This information has been revealed from the sources of all the concerned banks and the report submitted to the Agriculture Credit Committee on Thursday, September 03.

According to the information received that Sonali Bank will disburse tk. 13 crore and 57 lakh, Agrani Bank 17 crore and 16 lakh, Janata Bank 9 crore and 59 lakh 88 thousand, Bangladesh Krishi Bank 187 crore and 81 lakh, Karmasangsthan Bank 8 crore and 60 lakh, Rupali Bank 65 lakh, and Basic bank tk. 80 lakh for agriculture and poverty alleviation in the current financial year.

Besides, 24 private banks in Chandpur have set a target of disbursing tk. 63.74 crore and 73 thousand in the current fiscal year 2020-21. These include National, Pubali, Uttara, Islami, Al-Arafa, Shahjalal, First Security, City, United Commercial, BRAC, Social Islami, Mercantile, NCC, Prime, Asia, Dutch, Trust, Standard, Padma and Dhaka Bank Limited. Clients will also be able to avail themselves of loans for agriculture and other poverty alleviation sectors from the branches of these banks in the district, sources said.

There are 20 unions along the river and huge amount of agriculture products are produced on these rivers and char areas. In addition, fishing, raising cattle, poultry and vegetable production are the main sources of income for women in the region. In addition to Erie-Boro, rabi crops including potato, maize, wheat, mustard, onion, garlic, chilli, sweet potato, coriander, sesame, kalizira etc  along with vegetables  are produced in large quantities in Chandpur.

Meanwhile, Chandpur Irrigation Project and Matlab Meghna-Dhanagoda Irrigation Project are a blessing for the people of Chandpur. Irrigation projects are playing an important role in food production.

Department of Agriculture Extension, Chandpur agronomists provide all kinds of training in the field level and all kinds of advice on crop production. All types of public-private banks, BRDB and some NGOs provide necessary loans for agriculture production.

The government is providing 20% discount on irrigation bills, fertilizer and seed subsidies for irrigation to increase production in Erie-Boro. There is an excellent communication system to market agriculture products in Chandpur.
