Thousands of homebound passengers thronged at the ferry ghats: Huge queues of vehicles

As the holy Eid-ul-Azha knocking at the door, thousands of homebound passengers thronged at Kanthalbari-Shimulia and Paturia-Daulatdia ferry ghats to avail ferries creating a huge jam at both sides of ferry ghats. With the passages of time, the queue of waiting passengers is turning further long.

At around 12-00 noon on Thursday( 30 July) it is seen more than 2,000 vehicles awaiting to cross the river through ferries at Kanthalbari-Shimulia area.

Kanthalbari-Shimulia ghat authorities informed,' due to strong curent, the movement of ferries at Kanthalbari-Shimulia route remained suspended nearly 10-00 hour from 7-45 pm last night. The ferry serives resumed at a limited scale in the morning. As a result, the queue of vehicles increased at both ghats.

On the other hand, Zillur Rahman, DGM of BIWTC, Aricha Ferrighat informed,' Paturia-Dulatdia riverine route authority is fully prepared to ensure a safe journey for the homebound passengers during the Eid. Though the ferry movement was hampered for some times due to strong current, everything was under control.'

Hafizur Rahman, Additional Superintendent of Police of the district informed, 574-member of district police were working to control vehicle jam on Paturia-Daulatdia riverine route. Moreover, a mobile court and a permanent medical team was working round the clock to give service to the homebound passengers.
