Taxnet to widen if rural economy is buoyant LGRD Minister tells NBR seminar

The number of taxpayers will increase significantly if the rural economy is further strengthened, said LGRD Minister ABM Tajul Islam on Monday.

He mentioned that the there have huge potentials of the economy of Bangladesh because 67 percent of population here are youth who have been keeping tremendous role in keeping the wheel of economy active. 

Minister was addressing a seminar on income tax at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC).

"In 2009 when the Awami League assumed in power the country's per capita income was only 700 US Dollar which has increased to 2124 US Dollar in the last 14 years and the growth is really unprecedented", Minister added.

Minister guided the National Board of Revenue to ensure a friendly environment so that the general tax payers can pay tax hassle free.

"Coordinated digitization system has been introduced and which will be further strengthened in future", Minister said adding that the IMF has approved credit proposal for Bangladesh within six months which proves that the economy of Bangladesh is standing on a farm footing.

National Board of Revenue organised the seminar.

 Comptroller and Auditor General of Bangladesh, Mohammad Muslim Chowdhury attended the seminar as special guest with NBR Chairman Abu Hena Md. Rahmatul Munim in the chair.
