Taijul changes bowling action for variation

Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam is a regular face in the Bangladesh Test team. The 28-year-old spinner has played only 9 ODIs, 2 T20I matches and 29 Tests.

Recently, there has been a change in the bowling action of Taijul.

Much of his new bowling action looks quite similar to his spin bowling coach Daniel Vettori. Taijul said he changed his bowling action to to bring variety in bowling.

Taijul said this while talking to the media on yesterday. He said there was no problem with his bowling on home soil. However, he has made such changes in his action only to get success outside the country and to find suitable bowling action in three formats.

Taijul said, “I have realized that with my previous bowling action, I could not bowl with many variations. This is why I am changing bowling action. Action becomes more important when it comes to playing on foreign soil”

He added, “Top spin is important for bowling in foreign countries. It was hard to bowl top spin with my previous action. This is why I am changing my action.

Vettori says my new bowling action is suitable in all three formats. Everyone might think I’m copying Vettori’s action, but it's not true. The level of bowling variation was lower in the previous bowling action. That is why Vettori adviced me to change my action.”

Taijul has taken 114 wickets in 29 Tests. He has taken 12 wickets in 9 ODIs. 1 wicket in 2 T20s.
