Tackling climate change to be easy thru NAP implementation: Minister

Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin said that if the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) in Bangladesh is implemented and implementing long-term coordinated adaptation activities to tackle climate change Climate change will be easier to deal with. Proper strategies have been identified and implementing specific adaptation needs for Bangladesh NAP This plan is not only a national report, but it will highlight our position in the world of climate adaptation.

Environment Minister said this in the final validation workshop organized in the BICC on Sunday by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change

The Environment Minister said, to combat climate change more emphasis will be emphasized on increasing adaptive capabilities in risky areas.

In order to ensure climate development in Bangladesh, the adoption and adaptation activities will be implemented in national adaptation plans through the combined efforts of various ministries and organizations and related partners.

In the meeting, the Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Dr. Farhina Ahmed said that if the National Adaptation Plan is successfully implemented, about 1.1 million hectares of crop land will be protected from storm-rain , floods, tidal, sea level rise and protection from salinity. 

She also said annual production of 10.3 million tonnes of rice will be produced and increases the per capita nutrition from cattle and fisheries; Frequent infrastructure protection will be ensured from frequent climate disaster; About 30 million people in the city area will be benefited by the development of drainage management and heat wave, 10 percent of the transportation costs will be reduced. Environment Secretary said 15% expenses will be reduced to the treatment of mosquitoes and waters-borne diseases, and the income of the city's marginalized population will increase 30%;  Vernerability of about 1.5 million climate refugees will be reduced;  the tree coverage will increase at least 5 percent so that ecosystems and biodiversity will be rich and human health will improve; Blue economy will be enriched and  overall carbon emission will be reduced.

NAP is presented by  the CEGIS Executive Director Malik Fida A Khan.
