The newly constructed swimming pool at the outer stadium in the capital has been named after Sheikh Russel, reports BSS. City Mayor AJM Nasiruddin on Friday formally declared the name of the newly-constructed swimming pool while inaugurating the Sheikh Russel swimming competition in it as the chief guest.
Nasir said that the Taka 11 crore swimming pool of international standard has been constructed overcoming a number of obstacles created by different quarters. He said following the initiatives of the Prime Minister and the cooperation of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, it became possible for him to construct the swimming pool within the shortest possible time.
This is the first swimming competition in this pool since its construction, he added. Nasir said national and international swimmers will be able to do practice in this pool easily. State Minister for Youth and Sports Mohammad Jahid Ahsan Rasel inaugurated the swimming pool on Thursday as the chief guest.
The pool is situated over one acre of land with 50 meters length, 22 meters breadth and 1.8 meters depth, City Corporation sources said. The swimming pool accommodates a modern dressing room for athletes, a player’s lounge, a viewer’s gallery, a water purification plant, and a 250 KVA power sub-station for uninterrupted power supply, the sources added.
