Sujata’s footsteps in Dhaka cinema scene can be traced back to the sixties. In 1965 she had earned the title ‘Rupban Kanya’ through her acting in the film ‘Rupban’. She has made many appearances in numerous films in the golden era of Bangladeshi cinema. At present, she is passing her time in peace and quiet. She is going to receive the lifetime award in recognition of her unique contribution to the film industry.

The Ministry of Information released the Gazette on Thursday announcing the award winners of the last two years (2017 and 2018) together. From there it revealed that the Sujata’s name is listed for the lifetime award for 2017.

Sujata said, “Lifetiem award is an honored which I am delighted to receive. Such an honour at the twilight of life is really quite joyous. All my labor for the film industry has been for pleasing the people of the country. The highest honor in film industry is a testament to the effort I have given. My country has given me the recognition that I have worked for. Even if I die now I will be at peace.”

She added, “The film industry’s condition is not that well at present. When we were working it was the golden age of Bangla cinema. Now cinema production is decreasing. However, recently I got news of some good films again. In this way, even if the golden age cannot be brought back the film industry will surely rise again. I've got many things in my life for this industry, so I really want to see some good for the industry before my death.”

When asked how she is spending her time these days, she said, “I have become aged, that is why I am not working in films like I used to. I like writing. This year a novel has been published. Three more of my books will be published at the book fair in the coming year. Writing books is how I spend my time.”

In 1963, Sujata’s debut into the film industry was through acting as an extra actress in Salauddin's ‘Dharapat’. From 1964 to 1977, she has acted in 70 films.
