Students continue demanding re-introduction of DVM degree

Hundreds of students of Jhenaidah government veterinary college continued their protest in front of the main gate demanding re-introduce of doctor of veterinary medicine (DVM) degree which was canceled by the concerned university. The students came to street leaving their books and study finding no other alternative, said the agitating students of the college. 

They have confined 40 teachers and staff of the college including its principal Dr Ataur Rahman Bhuiyan from 10 am to 4pm on Tuesday. Later the agitating students released the 40 when the director general (DG) of the livestock department had assured them of resolve the crisis.

Jhenaidah government veterinary college students’ body better known as chhatra Sangshad general secretary Sazibul Hasan when contacted said the concern authority had issued them certificate against doctor of veterinary medicine (DVM) for the first batch students admitted in Jhenaidah government veterinary college. Since the second batch the authority has been issuing them certificates titled BSc. in veterinary and animal science. It was completely violation of admission rules of the university as they had mentioned the course as DVM, Sazibul Hasan said.

He said their curricular activities were conducted under Chattogram veterinary and animal science university. 

To ease the transportation and other geographical circumstances, the authorities handed over then under Jashore science and technology university (JUST). 

The said university was conducting academic activities, while could not issue any certificates. Later they were transferred under Shere Bangala Agriculture University. They have been issuing certificates titled veterinary and animal science degree certificates among the success students as against DVM which was the violation of admission contract. 

Dr. Ataur Rahman Bhiuya, principal of Jhenaidah government veterinary college when contacted admitted that the students have been fi0ghting to re introduce the DVM degree as per the admission contracts. As the matter was snot his concern, he had informed the matter to the director general of the said department and concerned ministry to resolve the crisis at an early date.
