JS watchdog asks education ministry

Stop indiscriminate establishment of edn instts

The parliamentary standing committee on the education ministry asked the concerned ministry to take necessary measures to stop indiscriminate establishment of educational institutions across the country. The instruction came at the committee's 4th meeting held on Tuesday at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban with its chairman Afsarul Amin in the chair.

In the meeting, the parliamentary watchdog also recommended honest, qualified as well as dynamic persons in the selection of the managing committee or governing body president in the educational institution for the betterment of the students. Committee members Minister Dr Dipu Moni, Deputy Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, M Abdul Kuddus, Fazle Hossain Badsha, Md Abdus Sobhan, AKM Shajahan Kamal, MA Matin, Golam Kibria Tipu and other officials concerned were present.

The meeting also formed a four member committee led by M Abdul Kuddus as convener in order to prepare the policy of governing body of educational institutions. The other members of the committee are Fazle Hossain Badsha, Md Abdus Sobhan and MA Matin. The meeting also asked the committee to prepare a report on governing body of educational institution immediately.

The JS watchdog also stressed the need for modernising madrasa education, mainly the Qawmi one. In the meeting, the committee members said, ‘Madrasas have failed to provide quality and realistic education and produce skilled human resources.’ The parliamentary watchdog asked the ministry to oversee whether any educational institution or coaching centre follows the government’s rules and regulation before its establishment.
