Stocks witness up on large-cap vibe

Stocks witnessed upward trend on Tuesday as major indices of both Dhaka and Chittagong Stock Exchanges were found rising trend with higher activities of some large-cap securities. The rising major sectors were textile, insurance, food and allied and
pharmaceuticals and chemicals. A total of 174 securities of the large-cap
group moved up on higher activities, agency reports. The broader DSEX index of the DSE closed the session with 75.22 points up
at 5,328.76. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 18.75 points up at 1,207.84 and with 33.07 points up at 1,861.37 respectively.

The daily turnover in value at DSE increased to Taka 403.13 crore from Monday’s Taka 351.44 crore. But, the volume of shares fell to 11.50 crore from Monday’s 11.98 crore shares. At the DSE, price of 225 securities out of the day’s 349 traded issues
closed higher against 70 losing issues.

The major gaining issues were NEWLINE, Global Insurance, BATBC, JMISMDL and Shepherd while the major losing issues were Sonar Bangla Insurance, VAMLBDMF1, Eastern Insurance, MEGCONMILK and Rupali Life. Square Pharma topped the turnover leaders followed by UPGDCL, BRAC Bank, Premier Bank and BATBC.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with upward trend with its major CASPI 242.92 points up at 16,260.43. At the CSE, 245 issues were traded. Of those, 158 closed higher and 47 closed lower while 75.19 lakh shares worth Taka 41.12 crore changed hands.
