Stocks witness flat as large-cap issues tumble

Stock markets Tuesday finished the session of the week flat as the major indices of the both Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges showed no significant rise amid lower activities of large-cap securities.

The benchmark index of the Dhaka bourse closed the day with 1.81 points up at 5,380.96. The blue-chip DS30 and Shariah DSES also followed the same trend with 2.67 points up at 1,896.49 and with 0.77 points up at 1,230.81, reports BSS.

The losers took a strong lead over the gainers as out of 349 issues traded, 161 closed lower, 131 advanced and 57 issues remained unchanged on the DSE floor.

The daily trade fell to 12.16 crore shares from Monday’s 12.45 crore shares. But, the day’s trade value at DSE increased to Taka 453.38 crore from Taka 378.15 crore of the previous session.

The major gaining issues were 1STPRIMFMF, SEMLLECMF, Runner Auto, Bangas and Standard Ceramics. The major losing companies were Al-Haj Textile, Eastern Insurance, Northern Insurance, Central Insurance and United Insurance.

JMISMDL topped the turnover list followed by UPGDCL, Genex Infosys Limited, Global Insurance and BSC.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with slightly upward trend with its major CASPI 6.63 points up at 16,477.60.

At CSE, 262 issues were traded. Of those, 97 closed higher and 113 closed lower when 3.34 crore shares worth Taka 96.31 crore changed hands.
