Stocks rally for straight 5th week

Stocks have rallied for 5th straight week at both the bourses--DSE and CSE-- as investors showed buying spree on large-cap securities especially on insurance company’s share at a lucrative price.

Market analysts said the market is back to normal trading after a long time.

They said some investors remained active in the market riding on optimism owing to gradual reopening of the economy and revival of some specific sectors' activities.

They hoped this will encourage investors to inject more funds into the capital market and the market will be better after Eid.

However, DSEX, the key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, went up by 11.83 points or 0.29 percent to finish the week at 4,080.94 points.

The prime index of DSE increased by 117 points in the four consecutive weeks.

The total turnover of DSE decreased to Tk 12.38 billion, from Tk 15.08 billion in the week before.

The daily turnover averaged Tk 2.47 billion, down by 17.92 percent than the previous week's average of Tk 3.01 billion.

Out of 357 issues traded at DSE, 136 ended higher, 52 closed lower and 169 remained unchanged.

Dhaka Insurance was the best performer of the week, posting a gain of 30 percent, while Islami Bank Bd Ltd was the week's worst performer, slumping by 12 percent.

The market capitalisation of DSE rose to Tk 3,175.28 billion, fromTk 3,154 billion in the previous week.

Grameenphone  dominatedthe turnover chart and became the top on the DSE floor with shares worth Tk 533.39 million changing hands.

It was followed by Square Pharma, Beximco Pharmaceuticals, Pioneer Insurance, and Nahee Aluminum Composite Panel.

The port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also saw positive trend during the past week with its selective category index (CSCX) gaining 37 points to close at 7044.64 points.

On the other hand, the all-share price index of CSE (CASPI) was higher by almost 61 points during the week to close at 11622.23 points.

Of 282 issues traded at CSE, 89 increased, 46 declined and 147 remained unchanged.
