Stocks end week down

Country’s both the bourses, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed trading in the first session of new fiscal 2020-21 registering marginal slump as investors were in cautious stance amid ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

At DSE, the broad index, DSEX settled at 3986.73 points on Thursday, last working day of week, with a marginal lose of 2.35 points or 0.05 percent, reports BSS.

Besides, two selective indices, Blue Chip index, DSE30 and Shariah index, DSES also went down slightly by 1.49 points and 2.97 points to settle at 1339.49 points and 922.10 points respectively.

On the DSE trading floor, a total number of 20,001 trades were executed in today’s trading session with a trading volume of 27.54 million securities.

On the other hand, DSE’s turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, stood at Taka 811 million from Taka 5.55 billion in the previous session.

Losers took lead over gainers as out of 273 issues traded, 24 securities gained price while 36 declined and 213 remained unchanged.

The market-cap of DSE decreased slightly to 3,117 which was Taka 3,119 billion in the previous session.

The top 10 gainers were Pubali Bank, Paramount Insurance, MJL Bangladesh, Wata Chemicals, Peoples Insurance, Prime first Finance Mutual Fund, Eastland Insurance, Baraka Power, GlaxoSmithKline and Bank Asia. Beximco Pharma topped the turnover chart followed by BSCCL, Wata Chemicals, Indo-Bangla Pharma, GlaxoSmithKline, Central Pharma, Jamuna Bank, MJL Bangladesh, Pharma Aids and Al-Arafa Islami Bank. The 10 top losers were Beximco Synthetics, CAN Textile, Family Tex (BD), Islami Bank, Beximco Pharma, Fine Foods, ACI Limited, Prime Insurance, BSCCL and One Bank.

On the other hand, port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed trading at red from the gaining streak of previous session.

CSCX and CASPI declined by 7.67 points and 11.46 points to stand at 6854.46 points and 11321.12 points respectively.

At CSE, a total of 1,256,251 shares and mutual funds of 124 companies were traded, of which 18 issues advanced while 27 declined and 79 issues remained unchanged.
