Speakers for providing all facilities to persons with disabilities

Speakers at a function here have said the persons with disabilities would have to be developed as worthy citizens of the country through providing them with all facilities including healthcare, education and employment, reports BSS.

“As the people including the children with disabilities are inseparable part of the society and the human diversity so, it is imperative to integrate people with disabilities to ensure their empowerment”, they said.

They made the comments while addressing a post rally discussion at the auditorium of Public Library and Club of the town on Thursday marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities and National Day of Persons with Disabilities.

District administration, department of social services (DSS) and District Integrated Disability Service Centre jointly organized the function in cooperation with SKS Foundation, CDD, world vision, and GUK and Sarkerpara Disable and Autistic School of Sadar upazila.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abdul Matin addressed the meeting as the chief guest and civil surgeon Dr. ABM Abu Hanif, and mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Advocate Shah Masud Zahangir Kabir Milon were present at the event as special guests. 

With deputy director of the DSS Emdadul Haque Pramanik in the chair, the function was also addressed, among others, by disable affairs officer of Integrated Disability Service Centre Akter Hossain, district coordinator of SHOMOTA project Hasina Parvin and journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman.

Holistic and collective efforts for both and private organizations have become an urgent need for ensuring fundamental rights and friendly atmosphere of the persons with disabilities in the society, they added. The chief guest said the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina implemented various programmes since 2009 to link the disable persons with disabilities with the mainstream of the society for overall development of the nation.

The DC also emphasized on ensuring congenial atmosphere to make an end to discrimination against the persons with disabilities to enable them leading a decent life so that they could contribute to the country’s development. Later, different devices were distributed to the persons with disabilities of the district free of cost.

A large number of people including children with disabilities, guardians, NGO representatives, invited guests including journalists took part in the programmes.
