There is an integrated action plan to establish six more metro rail lines in Dhaka by 2030. At the same time, feasibility study is going on in Chittagong and outside Dhaka.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said this during an exchange of views with journalists at his Secretariat office in the capital on Thursday.

The minister said that there will be two more service lanes in Dhaka-Chittagong. During the ongoing crisis we will not be able to undertake large projects. The Metrorail project was taken long ago. We can open half of the elevated expressway next year.

In response to reporters’ questions about the fare, he said, “We would say there will be no problem with the metro rail fare. Now least rickshaw fare is Tk 20. Dhaka and Kolkata metro rail is not the same. The metro rail will be inaugurated up to Motijheel during the tenure of this government.”

In response to a question from the journalists, the bridge minister said that BNP will do violence in the name of rally. We will not sit idle, we will be on alert. Awami League will be on alert on the day of BNP's pre-announced mass rally on December 30.

Obaidul Quader said that AL will be on alert throughout the country just like they did on 10th of December. “I will remain in the same position as I was on that day,” he said.

Obaidul Quader, who got the responsibility of general secretary of Awami League for the third consecutive term, said that Rangpur is an area having stronger influence of Jatiya Party or former president Ershad. “We did not interfere because our party candidate was lagging behind there. However, organizational steps will be taken to find weaknesses in the event of this loss,” he explained.

Incidentally, modern technology metro rail was inaugurated in Dhaka city on Wednesday. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her younger sister Sheikh Rehana, cabinet members and 285 people from various classes and professions were passengers on the inaugural journey.
