Single-day highest 1,617 new cases, 16 deaths

The coronavirus cases continue to rise in Bangladesh breaking records in each passing day.
On Wednesday, authorities confirmed the detection of 1617 more new cases in 24 hours which is yet another single-day highest.
With that, the number of total cases surged to 26,738.

During the period till 8am of Wednesday, 16 more patients died of the disease, raising the coronavirus death toll in Bangladesh to 386.
Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general for health, disclosing those updates said they had tested 10,207 samples in 43 labs across Bangladesh during the time.

Bangladesh has been recording an increasing number of cases over the past few weeks.
The first cases were announced on March 8 and the health authorities confirmed the first death on March 18.
The global death toll from coronavirus climbed to 324,910 as of Wednesday morning.

According to Worldometer data, the confirmed coronavirus cases in various countries of the world are now 4,986,332.
Some 1,958,496 patients made recoveries till Wednesday morning, which is 86 percent of the total cases, the worldometer data revealed.

The Bangladesh government also announced the recovery of 214 patients on Wednesday, increasing the total to 5,207.
Among the dead patients, 13 are male and three female.

Seven of them are from Dhaka division, five from Chattogram, three from Rangpur and one from Sylhet.
Twelve of them died at different hospitals and four died at home.

Prof Nasima said so far 19.47 percent of the coronavirus infected patients have recovered and some 1.44 percent succumbed to Covid-19.
Currently, 52,941 people are quarantined across the country – including 4,011 newly-quarantined individuals.

A total of 198,561 people have completed their quarantine course.
The country has only 399 ICU and 106 dialysis beds available for the treatment of coronavirus patients.
