In his reaction over Prothom Alo’s news item circulated on March 26, Pijush Bandyopadhyay, a Bangladeshi actor, director and playwright; said that it is an incident like Basanti and Durgoti, whose fake photos were published in 1974.
The Bangabandhu’s government was deeply embarrassed by the photos of famine-stricken Basanti and Durgoti wearing fishnets as clothes. It was later learned that a photojournalist took the pictures deliberately to fall the-then government into an embarrassing situation.
“A similar incident happened in 2023 by the Bengali daily Prothom Alo. As the country is approaching towards elections, conspirators became active. Prtohom Alo is also playing conspiring role,” Pijush Bandyopadhyay tells Bangladesh Post.
He said that those who held farce elections on March 20 in 1994 and on February 15 in 1996 are now talking about fair elections. Those responsible for the 2001 post-election violence are now crying out for human rights. They are going to foreign embassies. All are part of conspiracy.
