Shailkupa SAAO reluctant to visit remote villages

When the government has been sanctioning huge incentives in agriculture sector and making country produce surplus food and other agriculture productions including safe food, the farmers in a number of villages in Shailkupa upazila of Jhenaidah are deprived off services from a field level agriculture officer for years together. 

It has been hampering the agriculture activities as well as achieves the government target as the sub assistant agriculture officer (SAAO), better known as block supervisor does not go to the villages where “smooth road communications” was not available. The SAAO was identified as Jayanta Kumar Ghosh, posted for Kancherkole union of the upazila. The SAAO does not care the local union parishad chairman and ward councilors. Even keeps them away from any development work run in the union, alleged the locals.

A number of farmers of Kachua and Uttarkachua said they do not know the SAAO posted for the block under Kancherkole union.  For want of advice from any agriculture official, they have been depending on the fertilizer and pesticides businessmen. They mainly follow the activities of the elderly farmers to overcome the problems. It has been hampering their smooth agriculture productions, they said.

Manirul Islam, a ward councilor of the union parishad (UP) when contacted said an SAAO has been serving in the union for last four to five years. But he usually not go to fields regular. 

Not only that the said SAAO does not contact the local representatives like UP chairman. The said SAAO also misbehaves with the farmers and local people, the ward councilor said.

Kancherkole union parishad chairman Advocate Salahuddin Joarder Mamun when contacted, said SAAO Jayanta Kumar Ghosh arrives in the work station sometimes, while does not go to fields frequently is assigned in the government activities. He usually dose not involves the elected representatives in any development activities run by the government.
