Bangladesh International Theatre Festival

Seven countries to participate

For the first time ever an international theatre festival titled ‘Bangladesh International Theatre Festival’ is going to be held in the country. The Ministry of Cultural Affairs in collaboration with Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), International Theatre Institute and Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation is organizing the weeklong festival set to last from tomorrow until June 26 at BSA.

Theatre troupes form seven different countries including France, Russia, China, Vietnam, India, Nepal and Bangladesh will participate in the theatre festival. 

A press conference held at the seminar room of National Theatre Hall, BSA where the State Ministed of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs K M Khalid, MP, Director General of BSA Liaquat Ali Lucky and renowned theatre artist Ramendu Majumder among others were present. 

The curtain rising of the festival will take place tomorrow at 6:30pm at the main auditorium of National Theatre Hall, BSA. After the inauguration ceremony, the theatre troupe Dhriti Nartanalaya from Bangladesh will stage the dance drama ‘Mayar Khela’ at 7:30pm. 

‘Oh My Sweet Land’, a French production and an Indian production of ‘Macbeth’ will be staged on June 21. The following days will feature Bangladeshi, Chinese, Nepalese, Vietnamese and Russian productions titled, ‘Zaitun Bibir Pala’, ‘F CK’, ‘Jhialincha’ (Dragonfly), ‘Kim Tu’ (adapted from ‘The Wilderness’). Moreover, a light puppet show is in schedule for staging the following days.

On top of all the staging of international dramas a seminar will be held on June 22 at 3:00pm on the topic of national and international theatre.
