Seven awarded death penalty for Keramat murder in Faridpur

A court on Thursday sentenced seven people to death for killing a pick-up van driver at Bhanga Upazila in Faridpur. The court also fined each of them Tk10,000.

Faridpur District and Session Judge Mohammad Selim Mia delivered the verdict this morning after examining records and witnesses.

The convicts are – Tofa Molla 26, son of Late Abdul Molla; Palash Fakir 32, son of Abdul Mannan Fakir; Siddique Khalashi 36, son of Shamsul Haque Khalashi; Ershad Matubbar 32, son of Abdul Malek Matubbar; Suruj alias Sirajul Kha 27, son of Late Moslem; Naim Matubbar 35, son of Late Abdul Malek Matubbar; Anu Molla alias Anwar 28, son of Gias Uddin Molla of Chandra village in Bhanga upazila.

Naim and Suruj were tried in absentia.

According to prosecution, Keramat Hawladar, a pick-up van driver of Uttar Lohardia village in Bhanga upazila had gone missing on December 14, 2014. Later, police recovered his body from a water body in Dighalkanda the following day.

The next day, Keramat’s brother Ikram Hawladar filed a case at Bhanga Police station.

Police arrested five accused and submitted charge sheet against seven people on December 7, 2015.
