Seedbed prepared to produce Boro seedlings in Gaibandha

The farmers prepared seedbeds to produce healthy seedlings for Boro farming in all the seven upazilas in Gaibandha district during the current Boro season, reports BSS. 

Office sources said the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) has set a target of farmingBoro Paddy on 1,25, 200 hectares of land in the district this season.

To farm the paddy on the land, the farmers prepared seedbed on 67775 hectares of land where the healthy and quality seedlings grew and the farmers are expecting desired output against the paddies.

Now, the farmers of all the seven upazilas of the district are so much busy in nurturing the seedbed prepared on the low land.

To help the farmers produce quality seedlings of Boro paddy like BRRI Dhan-28 BRRI Dhan-29, BRRI Dhan-50 and BRRI Dhan-58, the seed of the varieties were distributed to the farmers at reasonable rates through BADC and other private firms approved by Seed Certification Agency of the government, said an official of the DAE.

Besides, many of the farmers have prepared seedbed by sowing their own seed not depending on BADC and local markets as they received training on seed preservation from the field level officialsof the DAE, said SaheraBanu, district training officer of the DAE.

Talking to the BSS deputy director of DAE KrishibidMasudur Rahman said the field level sub assistant agriculture officers were instructed to motivate the farmers so that the farmers are busy with nurturing the seedbed carefully to get quality seedlings from the seed beds.
