Savar UP chairman arrested in extortion case


Police have arrested Md Saidur Rahman Sujan, chairman of Savar's Birulia Union Parishad, for demanding Tk 5 lakh from the owner of a building under construction in Savar's Birulia Union.

Savar Model Police arrested him around 9 pm on Tuesday. Savar Model Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Mohammad Saiful Islam confirmed the matter.

The arrested UP chairman Mohammad Saidur Rahman Sujan, 45, is the son of late Ataullah of Kakabo area of Birulia union in Savar.

Earlier, the owner of a house under construction in Kakabo area of Birulia Union in the name of Ashraful Islam had lodged a written complaint with Savar Model Police Station against Chairman of Birulia Union Parishad Md Saidur Rahman Sujan for demanding Tk 5 lakh.

Later, the police registered a case against the victim and arrested the accused chairman Mohammad Saidur Rahman Sujan.

Savar Model Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Mohammad Saiful Islam said Chairman Md Saidur Rahman Sujan would be sent to court on Wednesday.
