Savar schools charge additional fees from SSC candidates

A number of schools, including some of schools under MPO, in Savar allegedly charge additional fees from students during SSC Registration form fill-up. The school authorities charge the extra fees denying strict directive of the government. The local education department failed to implement the directive of the government.

Kamrunnahar, Upazila Secondary Education Officer of Savar, told The Bangladesh Post, “I received several complaints about this, even some of guardians submitted written complaint. But none of them have any proof to pay extra. Therefore, no action can be taken against those schools without evidences.”

She also said, “We repeatedly tell everyone that nobody will pay without money receipt.  We can’t take any action if anyone deposits money without receipt.”

A student of Savar Dairy Firm High School told The Bangladesh Post that the authority of the school collects additional three to four thousands taka from students to fill up SSC form.

When asked about the complaint, Rebeka Sultana, headmistress of Dairy Firm High School ,said, “We collected five thousand and 370 taka according to the decision of steering committee.”

Visiting different schools of Savar including Gomail High School (MPO), Harvard High school (Private), Ebak Public School (Private), Shahin School and Collage (Private), Ased School, Noor Cadet Academy, Bhorer Alo School and Collage, Model School, it was seen that the authorities of those schools were collecting ‍additional money in different quantities from students to fill up SSC form. But none of them provide any document like money receipt to hide the proof.

On other hand, a human chain was formed by students of several schools of Savar in protest of collecting additional fees on SSC form fill up at Shimultola area in Savar on Wednesday morning.

Khalid Mahmud Redowan, a student of Adarsha school collage (Private) of Savar told The Bangladesh Post, “Our authority charges seven thousand and five hundred of taka to SSC form fill up. But they don’t give us any document of pay. When we asked about collecting additional fees, the authority said they collecting extra for school development.”

Shahadat Hossain, vice principle of Savar Adarsha School and Collage, said, “We collected additional money as coaching and development fees.”

Notably, Government prescribed 1970 of taka for science department, 1850 of taka for commerce and humanity department including center fee as SSC registration form fees for 2019-2020 academic year.
