Salman for setting up agro-based industry in JEZ

Prime Minister’s Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman Fazlur Rahman on Thursday urged businessmen to invest in Jamalpur Economic Zone (JEZ) for setting up agro processing industries utilizing the investment-friendly environment. “Jamalpur is an agriculture-based region. That is why JEZ is suitable for agro processing industries and maximum benefits could be reaped out of it,” he said while addressing the JEZ land allocation prospectus unveiling ceremony in a city hotel, reports BSS.

Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA) organized the event where Prime Minister’s Office’s Principal Coordinator (SDG Affairs) Md Abul Kalam Azad, Mirza Azam, MP, Engineer Md Mozaffar Hossain, MP, and Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) Chairman Major General Moin Uddin (Retd) also spoke on the occasion with BEZA Executive Chairman Paban Chowdhury in the chair.

Salman said: “EPZ is very important as we are going to attain the status of a middle income country. We’ve created investment friendly environment for the businessmen in EPZ, so they could invest here easily.” Highlighting different initiatives of power sector, the advisor said now the government’s goal is to supply quality power to all overcoming weakness in transmission.

“We are offering to supply power directly from the national grid if anyone can afford it and the government is doing this only for providing uninterrupted power supply,” he said. Abul Kalam Azad said different services such as land, water, gas, power etc are available in JEZ. “Labourers are available here while connectivity between Jamalpur-Dhaka-Chattogram is very good,” Paban Chowdhury said construction of gas and power transmission lines have already been completed while the remaining development works would be finished soon.
