To keep Dhaka city clean immediately after sacrificing animals on Eid-ul-Adha, a group of 20,000 people will be ready from both Dhaka North and South City Corporations.

However, there is no specific place for slaughtering this year in the city as people were reluctant to go to the designated places last year.

Every year on Eid-ul-Azha, about 50,000 tonnes of waste is generated in the two city corporation areas of the capital. This time the city corporations have taken preparations in advance with thousands of trucks, compactors, dump trucks, skid loaders and various types of vehicles including water trucks to remove the huge amount of garbage from the city within a day.

The two cities have distribution of various types of disinfectants including bleaching powder and antiseptic liquid. Each ward will be given about three lakh garbage bags.

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) chief executive officer Farid Ahmed said, “We would work to remove city waste within 24 hours started from 2:00 pm of the Eid day. There will be monitoring system in each ward. Our 6,800 waste management workers will work uninterruptedly for three days to remove the wastes. We will deploy three hundred equipment and vehicles for that.”

According to Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) sources, some 9,900 people will work in waste management on the day and the day after Eid. With its own 150 dump trucks, 47 heavy vehicles and 10 water trucks to remove the waste. In addition, 108 hired pickups will be engaged in ward-based waste collection on the first day. 54 pickups will work on the second day.

DNCC Mayor Md. Atiqul Islam said that they are well prepared to remove the sacrificial animal wastes from the capital within 12 hours.

Meanwhile, as the people are reluctant in slaughtering animals in designated places, DSCC has stopped designate places for slaughtering this year. Last year, DNCC allotted 307 spots, but there was no response. So this time the specific place was listed but it was not approved finally.
