S’pore co keen on solar power plant at Matarbari

A Singaporean company has proposed to set up a 400-MW solar power plant at Matarbari in Cox's Bazar. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) is likely to be signed within a few days in this regard.

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said this after holding a meeting with S Iswaran, Minister of Tarde and Industry of Singapore at his office at the Secretariat on Wednesday. Both the ministers discussed various issues related to the mutual interests of the two countries. 

Nasrul Hamid thanked the Singapore government and said, “Bangladesh is working to ensure a more sustainable power and energy sector. We want to utilize Singapore's experience.”

“We can work jointly on land-based LNG terminal, automation and IT sector, fast supply of petroleum products, human resource development, solar power, hydropower etc. If there is a framework agreement for cooperation in the power and energy sector, these work can be taken forward quickly,” he added.

The state minister also discussed the status of power and energy sector and areas of investment in the country. 

S Iswaran said, “We want to strengthen the existing relationship between Bangladesh and Singapore. Singapore's experience in airport solar power or floating solar power or power management can be shared in Bangladesh.”

In addition to the discussion on the framework agreement, the global situation including the spread of clean energy in the energy sector, investment, technical cooperation and fundraising were also discussed at the meeting. 

During the meeting, Singapore's Ambassador (Non-Resident) Derek Loh, Consulate Sheela Pillai, Bangladesh Power Development Board Chairman Mahbubur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer of North West Power Generation 

Company limited A M Khorshedul Alam and Director General of Power Cell Mohammad Hossain, were present.
