Rural journalists for stopping forced marriage of adolescents

Journalists working in rural areas have committed to stopping forced marriage of girl child and adolescents along with preventing early marriage, repression and violence against girl child and women, reports BSS.

The rural journalists working in the print, electronic and online media pledged this at a views-exchange meeting organised by ‘Pollishree’, an NGO, at hall room of Taraganj Press Club in Taraganj upazila town of the district on Saturday afternoon.

Taraganj Press Club President Khabir Uddin Pramanik presided over the event with participation of the member-journalists of the press club and other working journalists of Taraganj upazila.

Project Officer of the Creating Spaces Project of ‘Pollishree’ Sajedul Islam delivered the keynote presentation on “Prevention of violence against women and girls, early marriage and forced marriage” on the occasion.

He informed journalists about different approaches and programmes being implemented by ‘Pollishree’ aiming at establishing a society based on equality through empowerment of rural women and marginalized people. General Secretary of Taraganj Press Club Abul Kalam Azad, Correspondents Prabir Kumar of the Jugantor, Biplob Sarkar of the Manobjamin, Hafizar Rahman of the JaiJaiDin, Ashraful Islam of the Daily Sangbad, Enamul Haque Dukhu of the Amader Samoy, Deepak Roy of the Alokito Bangladesh and MA Shahin of the Ajker Report, among others, took part in the discussion.


Khabir Uddin Pramanik urged journalists to create mass social awareness for preventing violence against women and girls, early marriage and forced marriage to establish gender equity for achieving set targets of the sustainable development goals.
