Over 2,000 students of different schools, colleges and universities took part in a 10-kilometre marathon titled ‘Dourao Bangladesh’ or ‘Bangladesh, Run’. Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) headquarters organised a beach marathon at Kuakata in Patuakhali to raise awareness about the negative impacts of drug abuse.

RAB headquarters say the main objective of the marathon is to raise awareness about the negative impacts of drug abuse among youths. They said the elimination of drugs will not be possible unless a social resistance is created against its abuse. Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) is the organizer of the marathon race against the drug on Tuesday (December 24th) in Kuakata Sea Beach under the title ‘Dourao Bangladesh’.

RAB Director General (DG) Benazir Ahmed attended the event as chief guest. Since May 3, 2018, the RAB declared anti-drug war across the country with the slogan ‘Let's fight war against drugs’. During the nationwide raid conducted, 130 drug dealers were killed in ‘gunfight’. Currently there are 32,746 drug traffickers in jail.

Besides, 65 kg of heroin, 1 million 40 thousand 94 pieces of yaba, 2 lakh 41 thousand phensidyle, 15 thousand 510 bottles of foreign liquor, 2 million 23 thousand 65 liters of domestic liquor were seized by the elite force. Assistant Director of the Media Branch of RAB headquarters Senior Assistant Police Superintendent Mizanur Rahman said, the race was organized as part of an anti-drug campaign. Keeping students in this type of sport will keep them away from the drug.

“The risk of drug addiction is higher among the students who are studying in the college. The initiative is aimed at running an anti-drug campaign with the slogan ‘Run Against Drugs Bangladesh’ among the students. So that they have an anti-drug attitude from the beginning”, said RAB DG.
