Rajshahi University (RU) has approved its annual budget worth Taka 424.15 crore for the 2019-2020 fiscal year based on the allocation given by University Grant Commission (UGC), reports BSS.
The approval came in the 491st meeting of syndicate of the country’s second largest university held here last night with Vice-chancellor Prof Abdus Sobhan in the chair. Confirming this information Director of Finance and Accounts Afsar Ali told the local journalists that the UGC allocated the fund for the university earlier.
He said RU administration had proposed a budget of Taka 633.51 crore to the UGC that has allocated Taka 424.15 crore against the proposal.
“We get a revised budget every year,” he said adding that the UGC allocated Taka 423.35 crore for 2018-2019 fiscal against the proposal of Taka 557.52 crore. Later on, the budget has been revised to Taka 431.04 crore. This year also, there will remain a revised budget, he expected.
After the meeting Prof Abdus Sobhan told the journalists that the university wants to allocate more for research and education sectors.
The university needs more allocation from the government to ensure quality researches, he added.
