RU admission fraud: Case filed against 7 people

The Rajshahi University (RU) administration has filed a case against seven people among six students for fraudulent activities during admission in the academic year 2021-22. Registrar Professor Abdus Salam filed this case at Motihar Police Station on Tuesday.

Motihar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Hafizur Rahman has confirmed the matter.

The accused in the case are - Yashir Arafat (20) of Islamic History and Culture Department, Alif Hossain (20), Fisheries Department, Al Shams Tamim (19) of Public Administration Department, Nazrul Islam of Folklore Department, Shishir Ahmed (21) of Public Administration Department, Fazlul Karim Mahin (23) of Electronics and Electrical Engineering (EEE) Department and Shafiullah (26), former student of Law Department.

The legal action has been taken following the Public Examination Offences Act- 1980.

According to the statement of the case, about two lakh candidates participated in the first-year admission test of Rajshahi University for the 2021-22 academic year in three units. Shishir Ahmed appeared for Yashir Arafat, Fazlul Karim Mahin for Alif Hossain, Shafiullah for Al Sams Tamim and Shishir Ahmed for Nazrul Islam. During the examination, Shishir, Mahin and Shafiullah entered the examination hall and participated in the examination as proxy examinees despite not being candidates in various examination centers of Rajshahi University. As a result, they have committed an offense under the Public Examination Offenses Act, 1980.

Taking Motihar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Hafizur Rahman said, a case was filed by the Rajshahi University administration under the Public Examination Offenses-1980 Act. No one has been arrested so far. After opening the campus, necessary action will be taken against those involved in the incident by conducting an investigation.
