“Rangpur Metropolitan Traffic Police in collaboration with RpMP realised the fines from May 1 to May 5 by setting up 16 check posts at various points under six police stations in the metropolis,” Rangpur Metropolitan Traffic Inspector (TI) Delwar Hossain said.

Some people are violating the road transportation rules in view of the restrictions announced by the government before the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr festivity to control spread of the coronavirus infection, he said. The fines were realised in accordance with the Road Transport Act for violating the restrictions and faults in the required documents including the license and driving license of the vehicles.

A fine of around Taka 30 lakh has been imposed in these cases.

In violation of the law, many people are also transporting passengers in ambulances with stickers of various government offices to deceive the police. “On the eve of the Eid-ul-Fitr and restrictions imposed by the government during the ongoing lockdown amid the Covid-19 pandemic, the traffic police are on high alert so that no one could break the rules,” he said, adding that the operation will continue.
