Route survey for circular railway service soon

The government has taken up initiatives to introduce a circular train service around the capital to ease the city’s perennial traffic congestion problem.
In this regard, Bangladesh Railway (BR) has signed an agreement with some consultancy firms. The consultancy firms are China Railway Siyuan Survey and Design Group Co Ltd (CRSSDGCL) and Bangladeshi firm Bets Consulting Services Ltd and Engineers and Advisors Limited.

On Tuesday, an agreement was signed to conduct the survey within the stipulated time between BR and the consultancy firms. Circular Railway project director Md Monirul Islam Faraji and deputy head of marketing section of CRSSDGCL Chu Zhuquan signed agreement document on behalf of their respective sides.

As per the agreement, the firms will decide on selecting possible routes. Through the circular railway, entry and exit of Dhaka city will be easier. Commuters will be able to travel from one part to another without having to go through the main city. The survey is being conducted with the government’s own funding. The contract agreement money is Tk 24.56 crore. As it’s a government priority project, the survey has to complete within the stipulated time of April 2020.

Railway minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan was present as chief guest. He said, the present government is preparing and implementing the railway project attaching greater importance. ‘The government is working to take the railway services towards international standard. Once the circular railway is complete, it will ease the traffic system of the capital’- he added.

The minister further said thatthe government is giving top most priority to this project. For this reason the survey work has to complete within the scheduled time. ‘During the survey we will stay cautious that no other work hinders its progress’- the minister asserted. On the occasion, railways secretary Md Mofazzal Hossain, director general Md Kazi Rofiqul Alam and others were also present.
