A sensational story in the Italian press on Wednesday has claimed that Juventus could be forced to assess Cristiano Ronaldo’s future following the coronavirus pandemic, report agencies.

The Italian giants have already ordered their players to take a 12.5 per cent pay cut whilst Covid-19 stops football so as to save €90m from their budget. That saving may not be sufficient however and Il Messagero say that the club are now considering whether they need to sell Ronaldo so as to balance the books.

The Bianconeri would reportedly ask any club wanting to sign the Ballon d’Or winner to stump up €70m, and his exit would also mean the reigning Serie A champions would no longer have to pay his extraordinary €31m per year salary.

Selling Ronaldo would mean that Juventus would no longer have to pay his extraordinary €31m per year salary with cheaper options available in the market for a player who is at the twilight of his career.

Already, Ronaldo is being linked with a move away with reports last week suggesting that Manchester United might be willing to take back the Portuguese to boost their global sales.

A move to America’s Major Soccer League has also been muted with David Beckham’s Inter Miami is one of those clubs said to be interested in his services.
