Around 400 workers of a readymade garment (RMG) factory staged demonstration by blocking road to meet their demand of getting arrears at Rishipara area of Hemayeetpur in Savar, on the outskirts of the capital on Saturday morning.

Helal Uddin Bhuiyan, Senior Assistant superintendent of Industrial Police -1 told The Bangladesh Post , “The authority of the factory paid 35 percent of salary to each worker last month, and assured to pay the rest wage in next March 10, but the workers refused the authority’s decision and started demonstration.”

However, we later went to the spot and remove them from the road, he added.

Parvin Akhter, a worker of the factory alleged that the factory authority usually pay the full salary by the date 20 of the following month, but the authority paid less than half  of the salary to the workers for January month on Feb 25. So workers demonstrated demanding to get the payment of their full wage immediately, she added.

“I was given only taka 4,000 out of near about taka 12000, which causes financial hardship to me and my family”, said Parvin.

Kabir Hossain, a rights worker said, “Meeting is ongoing  with factory authority to resolve  the issues and we hope we will  get a logical solution from authority.”

This correspondent could  not reach the factory authority for a comment despite waiting before the factory gate near about half an hour. The security guard said meeting was ongoing inside  the factory.
