It was unimaginable for the almost starving rickshaw puller Shahadat Hosssain Hiru to get a job during the coronavirus shutdown.  Shwapno, one of the largest retail chain shops in Bangladesh, came up to his help during the time of crisis. The government is enforcing a shutdown till May 5 closing everything from offices to academic activities.

All the transport services have been suspended.  Hiru pedals rickshaw in Mirpur. He cannot earn his living now in empty Dhaka streets.  An online portal recently released a video of his hardship that drew the attention of the Shwapno management.

Shwapno said in a statement that they contacted with the reporter of the video story and later with him found the rickshaw puller. Executive Director Sabbir Hasan Nasir talked with him and awarded a job. He will now work as a delivery man of Shwapno’s Mirpur 1 area outlets. Hiru is happy. “I never imagined I’ll get a job in this crisis,” he reacted.

Shwapno recently appointed people from the third-gender – hijras.  They also maintain 10 percent quota for the people with disabilities.
