To minimize traffic congestion in the capital, the concerned authority is going to impose a ban on rickshaw movement in the capital’s three major roads.
The three roads are Kuril to Saydabad via Rampura, Gabtoli to Azimpur via Asadgate and Science Laboratory intersection to Shahbagh. The decision was taken at a meeting of the special committee formed to remove illegal vehicles from Dhaka roads and free footpaths from grabbers aiming to reduce traffic jams in the capital.

To this end, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon said rickshaw movement on three major roads in the capital is going to be effective from July 7. He was presiding over a meeting of the special committee formed to remove illegal vehicles from the capital roads and free footpaths from grabbers at Nagar Bhaban on Wednesday.

It is to be noted, on June 19, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader announced the formation of a committee to identify and remove illegal vehicles from streets in the capital, and reclaim footpaths. Quader said the newly-formed committee will work to reclaim Dhaka's footpaths, too. "Footpaths are for pedestrians," he said. "This committee will run campaigns to recover illegally occupied footpaths, and evict hawkers."

In the meeting, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority Chairman Mashiur Rahman, Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation Chairman Farid Ahmed Bhuiyan, Dhaka Transport Owners Association general secretary Khandaker Enayet Ullah, DTCA Executive Director Rakibur Rahman among others were also present.
