Rice still pricier, veg cheaper

In just a week, rice and fish price go up a bit more when prices of potato and onion fall slightly. 

However, prices of eggs, edible oil, meat, spices and other products remained unchanged. 

While visiting different kitchen markets in the capital, including Karwan Bazar on Friday, this correspondent found such price variations of essential commodities. 

The price of rice has again increased by Tk 2 to 5 per kilogram (kg). Per kg Atash rice is now Tk 53 to 55, paijama is Tk 48 to 50, miniket from Tk 62 to 65, Nazirshail from Tk 65 to Tk 70 per kg. 

Karwan Bazar rice trader Yousuf said, "Now rice price is bit high as the rice mill owners buying paddy at a higher price. But as the government is importing rice, soon the price will come down". 

Visiting different fish markets, it was found that, Per kg chital fish was selling at Tk 450 to Tk 500 per kg, Awn fish at Tk 500 to Tk 600, Rohi is at Tk 250 to Tk 350 per kg, Katla at Tk 170 to Tk 280, Tilapia sold at Tk 140 to Tk 160, Boal fish at Tk 400 to Tk 450, Pangas is sold at Tk 100 to Tk 150, Pabda sold at Tk 280 to Tk 350, and Shing sold at Tk 400 to Tk 500 (based on quality and size).

Fish traders Kalam Majhi said, "Fish prices are high since last week. If supply increases in the coming days, fish price will reduce soon". 

While visiting the vegetable markets, it was found that, radish is seeking at Tk 20 per kg, bean is selling at Tk 30 to Tk 60 per kg, tomatoes is selling at Tk 100 per kg, turnip is selling at Tk 20 to Tk 30 per kg, string bean is Tk 50, brinjal is Tk 50 to Tk 60, cucumber is Tk 40, parwal is Tk 50, papaya is Tk 30, bitter gourd is Tk 60, okra is Tk 40, green chili is Tk 90 to Tk 100, and carrots are being sold at Tk 50 to Tk 80 per kg, per piece of cauliflower and cabbage is now Tk 20 to Tk 30, per piece gourd selling at Tk 40.     

Karwan Bazar vegetable trader Ibrahim said, "Prices of some vegetables were high last week. But, supply has increased this week and price is normal now". 

The price of broiler chicken is being sold at Tk 120 to 130, layer chicken at Tk 230 to Tk 240 and sonali chicken at Tk 240 to Tk 250 per kg. Beef is selling at Tk 600 and mutton at Tk 800 per kg.
