Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder Sunday urged the rice mill owners to refrain from increasing prices of the most essential commodity-rice, as the country has adequate stock of rice, reports BSS.
The minister made this call while addressing a discussion meeting of the rice mill owners at Kadhya Bhaban in the capital.
“Now we have adequate stock of staple food, so, the rice mills owners have been asked not to raise rice price without any reason,” said the minister briefing the journalists after the meeting.
The food minister said price of the fine variety rice has witnessed a slight rise in the market as nobody agrees to take coarse variety of rice.
Acting Food Secretary Omar Faruque, Director General of the Department of Food Nazmanara Khanum and the food ministry officials, among others, were attended at the meeting.
