Result depends on re-voting at of suspended centre

Re-polling will be held at the suspended polling center of Kishoreganj Municipality next Saturday (January 30). The center in which polling was suspended is the three-storey building of Wali Newaz Khan College. Kishoreganj Returning Officer Mohammad Ashraful Alam informed this on Monday night.

Polling of Kishoreganj Municipality Election was held on Sunday (January 16). 

However, Returning Officer Mohammad Ashraful Alam postponed polling at the aforementioned center due to chases and snatching of ballot papers at the time.

Awami League Mayoral candidate in the election Parvez Mia is leading with 484 votes in 27 centers out of 28 centers, according to unofficial results. On the other hand, the number of voters in the suspended Wali Newaz Khan College is 1,852. As a result, victory or defeat in the election is hanging on the results of the re-election in that center.

As per, District Returning Officer signed preliminary results of 27 centers, Awami League candidate the current Mayor Md. Parvez Mia received 20,922 votes while, BNP candidate District BNP Organizing Secretary Md. Israel Mia received 20,438 votes. 

A total of 44,291 voters exercised their franchise in 27 centers. Of these, 69 votes have been canceled and the remaining 43,598 votes have been validated. The percentage of votes cast in the election is 62.31.
