Renowned Indian filmmaker Buddhadeb passes away

Renowned Indian filmmaker Buddhadeb Dasgupta passed away due to age-related complications on Thursday morning.

The 77-year old celebrated director breathed his last in his Kolkata residence at 6 am this morning.

Buddhadeb Dasgupta was suffering from kidney-related issues and geriatric problems. Family members shared that he was unwell for more than a year and couldn't walk properly. He had been undergoing dialysis for a long time. He was supposed to have dialysis on Thursday too. When his wife went to wake him up, she found him unresponsive. The news has left the industry shocked. With his visualisation, which was ahead of his time, storytelling and craftsmanship, he cast a spell on the audience.

Directors Goutam Ghosh, Aneek Dutta, actors Prosenjit Chatterjee mourned his sudden demise.

Goutam said, "I still can't believe that he is no more. There are so many beautiful memories with him. I lost a friend."

Director Aneek, also shared how the news has deeply saddened him. Actor Prosenjit Chatterjee is also taken aback by the news. He also expressed his grief.

'Urojahaj' was his last film directed by Buddhadeb Dasgupta. 'Uttara', 'Tahader Kotha', 'Charachar', 'Lal Darja', 'Swapner Din', 'Mondo Meyer Upakhyan', 'Anwar Ka Ajab Kissa' are some of his master crafts. He stepped into showbiz with small documentaries and went on to make full-length feature films. His films reflected the current situation of the society and mirrored the struggles of common people. -Times of India
