Recoveries cross 150,000-mark

The recovery from the Covid-19 has crossed the 150,000-mark in Bangladesh which is more than half of the total number of confirmed cases.

Additional director general for health Prof Nasima Sultana on Monday at the daily briefing said 2,067 patients were declared free of the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours which raised the total number of recoveries to 150,437.

It is 57.75 percent of the total patients so far.

During the last 24 hours, the health department also registered 2,907 new cases and 39 deaths, raising the tally of the total number of cases to 260,507 and deaths to 3,438.

The death rate is now 1.32 percent, according to the health department.

Some 12,849 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

Prof Nasima also gave details of the deceased and said 35 of them were men and four were women. Thirty-one of them have died in different hospitals and eight at their respective residences.

Twelve of them were from Dhaka, eight from Rajshahi, seven from Chattogram, six from Khulna, three from Mymensingh, two from Barishal, and one from Rangpur division.

Of the total deceased so far, 79.14 percent were men, and the rest were women.

Currently, 52,482 people are quarantined across the country – including 2,056 newly-quarantined individuals.

Some 402,242 people have completed their quarantine course.

The country is capable of accommodating 31,991 people at 629 institutional quarantine facilities across the country, Prof Nasima said.

The authorities placed 815 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 18,981 after 38,501 left.

The government is still providing telemedicine services for the Covid-19 patients.
