Real fishermen now getting lease of ‘Jal Mahal’

Only registered and genuine fishermen are getting Jal Mahal lease. After accepting the Jalmahal application online, it is becoming possible to arrange the lease with transparency and efficiency by synchronizing the field level report and data from the land information bank.

Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury said this while presiding over the 70th meeting of the Committee on Land Leasing of the Ministry of Land held at the meeting room of the Land Ministry at the Secretariat on Thursday. 

Land Secretary Md. Mostafizur Rahman and officials of the Haor Infrastructure and Livelihood Improvement Project (HILIP) under the the Local Government Department and Sairat Mahal Branch of the Land Ministry virtually attended the meeting. The land minister said, “As part of digital land management, measures have been taken to upload information on all lands acquired and Sairat Mahal online. About 82 percent of the data of various government and khas lands / land resources have already been uploaded in the land information bank.” Saifuzzaman Chowdhury said, “Steps have been taken to preserve all information related to Jalmahal, Balumhal, Khas land, vested property, Hatbazar, tea garden, Chingrimahal and acquisition in the Land Information Bank. As a result, it is possible to get all the information about the settled land, all the information about Sairat Mahal, all the information related to government land. Moreover, the Land Information Bank is also playing an important role in making decisions regarding land acquisition and allocation.” It may be mentioned that in the case of 17 proposals of Habiganj, Tangail, Sunamganj, Moulvibazar, Pabna, Kishoreganj and Khulna districts, subject to receipt of report from the Deputy Commissioner Is done. On the basis of the report, the land minister has approved to extend the deadline for handing over 132 of the 139 Jal Mahals handed over to the HILIP project till April 13, 2023. HILIP has been working since 2012 to improve the living standards and reduce poverty of the poor people in the Haor region. The HILIP project is scheduled to expire in 2023.
