Rangpur corona hospital attains 92pc recovery rate

The government-run Rangpur Dedicated Corona Isolation Hospital (DCIH) has attained 92 percent recovery rate of under treatment coronavirus (COVID-19) patients in the last five months since its inception, reports BSS. 

Talking to BSS, DCIH Superintendent Dr. SM Nurun Nabi said the hospital, an extended health care facility of Rangpur Medical College Hospital, started providing treatments to COVID-19 patients since its inauguration on April 19 this year.

“The DCIH is providing health services to the patients with a manpower capacity of 122, including 32 physicians, 70 nurses and 20 other staff with attaching special priority and taking care with utmost dedication,” he said.

The 100-bed DCIH has 90 general beds and a modernised intensive care unit with 10 beds and 10 ventilators and a modernised high pressure central oxygen supply system.

“As a part of routine programmes, eight more COVID-19 infected patients were discharged from the hospital by bidding them ceremonial farewell at its compound with ‘recovery certificates’ and flowers on Saturday,” Dr. Nabi said.

Since the beginning, a total of 642 COVID-19 patients were admitted to the facility, and of them, nine critically sick persons with multiple health complexities referred to Dhaka for advanced treatments and 30 others are now undergoing treatments.

“Among the rest of 603 under treatment patients, 555 were discharged after healing at the recovery rate of 92 percent and 48 patients (mostly aged between 65 and 85 years) died at the hospital with multiple complexities till Saturday,” Dr. Nabi said.

The recovered COVID-19 patients are being discharged after disappearance of all symptoms and found to have coronavirus negative in a real-time PCR test at the COVID-19 Laboratory in Rangpur Medical College.

Talking to BSS, some recovered patients expressed satisfaction over excellent health services they received from the physicians, nurses and other staff at the DCIH and termed the hospital as a world class health service provider to the COVID-19 patients.

DCIH on Saturday, recovered patient Shamsunnahar, 82, of Nilphamari said she got incomparable treatments and services from a well-organised group of dedicated physicians, nurses and other staff at the facility.

“I was admitted to the DCIH on August 4 last and discharged after recovery on Saturday,” Shamsunnahar said, and expressed her deep gratitude to the physicians, nurses and other staff for their dedicated services to all admitted patients.

Recovered patients Dr. ABM Rashedul Amin, 42, Nazlar Rahman, 82, BM Monsura, 64, and Dr. Saba Sabiha of Rangpur and Nandika, 53, Kamalaskma, 24, and Ranjeet Kumar, 50, of Lalmonirhat were also discharged on Saturday from the hospital.

While expressing their experience to BSS while undergoing testaments at the DCIH, they highly valued the physicians, nurses and staff of the facility for their dedicated health services to all admitted patients.

Similarly, discharged coronavirus patients from the hospital Rokan Uddin, 42, of Gaibandha, Rabiul Sarder, 54, of Kurigram and Mubarak Hossain, 65, of Lalmonirhat and Sathi Rani, 30, of Rangpur said they received there admirable treatments.

“The doctors, nurses and other staff at the DCIH are providing treatments to all admitted patients giving special priority and taking care like their own relatives,” said Mubarak Hossain, who was discharged on August 29 last.
