Quader urges AL men to remain united for country’s progress

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Saturday urged the leaders and workers of the party to remain united under the leadership of AL President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to take the country forward, reports BSS.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is taking ahead the country conquering fears to materialise the dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Let us be united under Sheikh Hasina’s leadership to take forward the country,” he said.

He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of the 13th national council of Bangladesh Jatiya Sramik League (BJSL) at historic Suhrawardy Udyan.

Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the conference of BJSL, the labour wing of Bangladesh Awami League (AL).

The AL general secretary said: “Our leader Sheikh Hasina initiated the anti-graft drive. The drives were conducted inside own house (AL) at first.”

Quader said Sheikh Hasina’s government is the most successful one in the last 44 years.

The country’s most honest person, popular politician, prudent leader, efficient statesman and successful diplomat’s name is Sheikh Hasina, he added.

The AL general secretary said her development works and achievements have been lauded at home and aboard.

Chaired by BJSL President Sukkur Mahmud, the inaugural session was also addressed by AL Labour and Manpower Affairs Secretary Habibur Rahman Siraj, State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian, International Labour Organisation (ILO) Country Director Tuomo Poutiainen, International Trade Union Confederation-Asia Pacific (ITUC-AP) General Secretary Shoya Yoshida and South Asian Regional Trade Union Council (SARTUC) General Secretary Laxman Bahadur Basnet.

AL Presidium Members Begum Matia Chowdhury and Advocate Abdul Matin Khasru, Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Information Minister and AL Publicity and Publication Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud, Housing and Public Works Minister and AL Legal Affairs Secretary SM Rezaul Karim, Organising Secretaries AFM Bahauddin Nasim and AKM Enamul Haque Shamim, Office Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, Cultural Affairs Secretary Asim Kumar Ukil, Forest and Environment Secretary Delwar Hossain and AL leader Mirza Azam were present on the occasion, among others.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also the AL president, opened the conference by releasing pigeons and balloons at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital.

With the playing of the national anthem, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina hoisted the national flag while BJSL President Sukkur Mahmud the organization’s flag.

Rishij Shilpi Gosthi rendered the national anthem on the occasion. Later the musical group led by singer Fakir Alamgir performed a colorful cultural function.

Moderated by organisation’s general secretary Sirajul Islam, its executive president Fazlul Haque Mantu read out the death references on the occasion.

One-minute silence was observed on the occasion in memory of Bangabandhu, four national leaders, all martyrs of August 15 carnage including Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib, martyrs of Liberation War and all mother movements and late leaders and workers of Sramik League.

Around 8,000 councilors and delegates of the organization from its different units across the country joined the council.

On October 12 in 1969, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman founded the Bangladesh Jatiya Sramik League, the country’s largest labour organisation.

In the last conference of the BJSL held on July 19 in 2012, labor leaders Sukkur Mahmud and Sirajul Islam were elected president and general secretary respectively of the body.
