Quader for spraying aerosol in buses before Eid journey

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader Monday said letters have been sent to the bus owners to take steps for spraying aerosol in all buses before starting journey during the holy Eid-ul-Azha. “Dengue outbreak makes people worried over Eid journey. I request the two city corporations to take effective measures to keep terminals clean and to kill mosquitoes,” he told newsmen after a coordination meeting with stakeholders to make smooth the journey of Eid holidaymakers by road.

Quader, also Awami League General Secretary, said bus terminal management should be more service-oriented. BRTA mobile courts and vigilance teams of law enforcement agencies will be at every terminal, he said, adding that the mobile courts will take steps if any bus service is found realizing additional fare from passengers.

Quader said repair works of all roads and highways will be completed three days before Eid. BRTA works on Tongi-Gazipur will remain stopped for now, he added. The minister said setting up cattle market along roads is causing traffic congestion. He asked the authorities concerned to take steps to check public suffering due to setting up of cattle market along roads.

Quader said the ministry has opened a control room to make smooth the people’s Eid journey by roads. The control room, opened at BRTA headquarters at Banani, will function from August 6 to August 17, he added. He said some 1,150 BRTC buses will be run on roads for providing Eid special service, the 250 buses procured under Indian line of credit will also be added to the Eid service and 50 buses will be kept stand by urgency.

Transport workers’ leader and former Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, Gazipur City Corporation Mayor Jahangir Alam, high officials of the ministry, representatives of law enforcement agencies, representatives of transport owners and workers attended the meeting.
