Proper implementation of laws stressed to prevent early marriage

Speakers at a programme in Manikganj on Thursday underscored the need for proper implementation of the existing laws to prevent child marriage in the society as Bangladesh has the highest percentage of child marriage among Asian countries, reports BSS. 

They came up with the observation in a view exchanging meeting of marriage registers of the district on child marriage prevention held at the conference room of Deputy Commissioner. SM Ferdous, deputy commissioner of Manikganj, presided over the function titled ‘Prevention of Child Marriage and Awareness among the People. Mustak Ahmed, district register and other marriage registers – Nur Muhammad Jahangir, Maulana Fazlur Rahman and Md Al Amin were present on the occasion.

Kamal Hossain Khan, sub-register of Manikganj Sadar, Gobinda Saha, sub- register of Ghior upazila and Lokman Hosain, sub-register of Singair upazila, among others, spoke on the occasion.

Mentioning that the child marriage is a curse in the society, Deputy Commissioner SM Ferdous urged the marriage registers and authorities concerned to be careful while registering a marriage so that none can violate the laws.

He said, “Necessary action will be taken against anyone who violet the law.”
