Project on food safety, higher education launched

New Dutch collaboration to food safety capacity development in Bangladesh under the orange knowledge programme (OKP) of NUFFIC of Netherlands, a new institutional collaboration project for higher education in food safety was started in Bangladesh on 30 June. 

This OKP project titled ‘Enhancing Food Safety TVET and Higher Education in Bangladesh’, is led by the Interdisciplinary Institute for Food Security (IIFS) of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) in partnership with Shere-Bangla Agriculture University (SAU) and Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) on Bangladesh side and on Dutch side Wageningen University & Research is leading in partnership with Précon Food Management.

The key objectives of this project are to offer MS programmes in Food Safety and other professional courses for food safety professionals. 

The new Dutch support for higher education in food safety was appreciated by the guests who participated in the project launching program via Zoom. 

Among others, the launching event was attended by BAU VC Professor Dr Lutful Hassan, SAU VC Professor Dr. Kamal Uddin Ahamed, BFSA Chairman Mr. Md. Abdul Kayowm Sarker and Dutch Ambassador to Bangladesh Mr. Harry Verweij. 

The speakers recognized the present challenges in the Covid-19 situation and showed their concern, sympathy and solidarity during the virtual inauguration programme.
