Different socio-politio-cultural organisations organised various programmes in Dhaka on Monday marking the 15th anniversary of the countrywide serial bombing by the banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen, Bangladesh (JMB) on August 17, 2005.

Police have so far submitted charge-sheet in 143 cases out of 159 filed over the bombing incidents.

Assistant Inspector General (media and public relations) of Police Headquarters Mir Sohel Rana told the Bangladesh Post that the law enforcement submitted final reports in another 16 cases since the accused remain unidentified.

Trial of 96 cases finished while 47 other are under trial, he added.

In the countrywide simultaneous bomb blasts in around 500 points in all 64 districts except Munshiganj, JMB killed two people and wounded 50 others.

The JMB had shown its existence by carrying out the series blasts. The terrorist outfit, however, suffered a huge blow following the execution its top six leaders two years after the bombing.

The six executed leaders were JMB chief Shaikh Abdur Rahman, his second-in-command Siddiqul Islam Bangla Bhai, military commander Ataur Rahman Sunny, think-tank Abdul Awal, Khaled Saifullah and Salahuddin.

They were hanged on March 30 in 2007 in the case for the killing of two judges in Jhalokathi district.
